About Shift Research Lab

Welcome to Shift Research Lab, formerly The Data Initiative.

Why the name change and new look? As we reflected on the work the Data Initiative has done over the past 20 years, we realized that we are more than just an “initiative.” It was time to create a name—and identity—that more clearly communicates who we are and what we do. Moving forward we are focused on expanding our reach and impact so we can further our mission of pioneering a data-driven culture within Colorado's social sector.

We educate and empower social change organizations by providing reliable, objective data and analysis to inform their decision-making process with sound insight. This shift in perspective helps our partners have a more profound and lasting impact on the communities they serve.

Through our products and services, we offer neighborhood-level data and analysis via online platforms, perform objective research to support community change initiatives, and provide technical assistance that helps organizations build their capacity to use data.

We advocate for the democratization of data and believe that by openly sharing, analyzing, and monitoring data, communities are able to tackle the most pervasive social issues with confidence, clarity and empathy.
