Denver Public Schools commissioned Shift and Denver Regional Council of Governments to develop an enrollment forecast to answer the question: How many children will be enrolled in a Denver Public School in the next five years? Shift's findings estimate that, after growing for nearly two decades, Denver Public Schools' student population will drop almost two percent by 2021. This decrease in enrollment is attributed to lower post-Great Recession birth rates and Denver's rising housing prices, which are displacing lower-income families.
